Saturday night was my 40th high school reunion held at the Conway Riverside club. It was a great night with probably 150 people in attendence. As I wandered from room to room hugging and visiting, I was reminded of what a really terrific class we were priviledged to be apart of that year. Alot of the talk was of grandchildren and retirement and the challenging economic times. The DJ was great and specialized in beach music, the caterers prepared an abundance of food (not that most of us needed all that) and the bartender (Trudie) was smiling and helpful. The team that got this “shindig” together did a wonderful job! The highlight of the night for me was the video that reminded us of who we were “back then” and of the classmates that had gone on to be with God. It was hard to be reminded of what we lost and I for one, shed a few tears. Some of my friends danced away till midnight but Tommy and I had to leave a little bit early this time. If we get a chance to have another class reunion-I plan to stay until the last person leaves!!
It is part of my job to be up to date on all the new real estate inventory in the Conway area. I am amazed at how many choices there are out there for potential buyers and at wonderful values. Let me tell you about a few. First there is a community just off Hwy. 501 on Dunn Shortcut Road called Forest Glen. The subdivision is being developed by First Coast homes of Charleston, SC. They have homes ranging from $139,900-$227,990 and 17 plans to choose from! One of my favorites is the “Albemarle” that has 2401 heated feet with a 2 car garage for $193,990. These prices reflect the fact that the subdivision is new and the clubhouse and amenity center is not built yet. Anyone who wants a “early bird discount” needs to take a look at this one!
For the more traditional home buyer, located in town and on larger lots, Elmhurst may be just the place for you. This a a well established neighborhood with pretty trees and neat, moderate sized, ranch style homes. I previewed one with a brick decorative front, screened porch, hardwood floors, and a beautiful wooded back yard for $169,900. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and an open airy feel when you walk in the living area.
These are just two of many more areas to choose from and located just minutes from the beach. I sound like a walking advertisment but there really are a great number of choices and with excellent prices as well. For someone like me who just loves this area, I want to share the news. Why live in the colder climates, pay huge taxes, and higher prices for homes when you can live in my home town?
I guess jobs could be the answer to that question. Our main industry is the tourism business and all the service industries related to that field. I know that we need more industry and more job opportunities so that people can take advantage of our wonderful area and enjoy the quality of life that I have enjoyed all my life.

In my 37 years in the real estate business, I have never seen such great opportunities to purchase a home or a business location. I had the opportunity to do several market studies this past week and was surprised to find out that you can purchase a brand new home in a very nice subdivision for less than $120 per heated square foot!! Just 12 months ago, the same home would be more like $150 per square foot.
No,it may not have all the bells and whistles that you would dream of, but it is a safe and comfortable place to live and raise your family. It is a shame that the news media is frightening so many people who could afford to own their own home for the first time ever and are choosing not to because they are afraid. If you have a stable income and are paying rent in excess of $700 per month, you can and should own your own home.
We live in a college town and only minutes from the beautiful Atlantic ocean. How smart would it be to buy a condo or small home for your college age student and later use it for a second home?
I am still learning how to operate my new blackberry cellphone. There is one thing that I am sure of positively! It is that someone in my “age bracket” can learn something new and really love it. My husband, Tommy, and I sit back and stare at each of our little screens while sitting together and having our morning cup of coffee.

This is my first blog and I am excited about learning more about the web. I have a huge learning curve because I am 58 years old and its difficult for some of us of my generation to break into this web world. We played kickball and basketball and things like that after school. My grandchildren already have a computer at 4. But, I’m learning more every day and I’m sure they’ll be teaching me soon enough.
I hope this will be an opportunity to tell you all about my family, our life in Conway, SC, and about my business as a Realtor in this area. I’ve been so blessed to have one of the most successful offices in the area and I owe much of that to my friends and colleagues who have helped me develop over the years. I look forward to telling you all about them here.
I hope to get to know other Realtors through my blog, learn more about the web and web design, and maybe even get the opportunity to sell some great real estate near Myrtle Beach, SC. So, subscribe and check in often. Feel free to drop me a line just to say “hey” or to hit me with questions about this town or Conway Realestate. I look forward to talking with you.
Nancy
